What Exactly is PRP?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) comes from your very own blood. Our blood contains plasma, which contains platelets, which contain dozens of growth factors. These growth factors help the body to heal, they promote cell growth, and they perform tissue repair.

When PRP is incorporated into another treatment such as microneedling, these growth factors result in tissue regeneration and new collagen and elastin production, which is incredible for the skin.

Is PRP Facial Rejuvenation Safe?

Yes, as long as you choose a licensed medical professional who is experienced and skilled, with good feedback. Platelet-rich plasma therapy has a very low risk for side effects, as it is derived from your own body.

“I have only had wonderful experiences with the staff and doctors here…I find them very kind and patient on the phone, they help me figure out insurance stuff and prescription stuff, and they’ve really gone to bat for me. Not to mention the on-call phone nurses who have also called to check up on me and talk me through teary moments of whatever was going on. Love Dr. Jukes and staff!”

PRP Facial Rejuvenation Treatment Details

Before treatment, we will cleanse and prep your skin, just as you would expect during a facial. You may also be given a topical anesthetic, depending on how the platelet-rich plasma will be administered. After this, the treatment consists of three steps:

  1. Blood draw: We will take 1-2 ounces of blood from you.
  2. Centrifuge: Your blood will be placed into a machine to separate the plasma from the red blood cells and impurities.
  3. PRP administration: The separated and purified plasma will be administered to your skin.

Platelet-rich plasma can be administered with microneedling, topically with a facial, or through injections. During your consultation with us, we will determine which method of delivering the PRP will work best for your aesthetic needs.

  • When PRP is used with microneedling, it is dripped onto the skin while the microneedling device creates tiny holes in the dermis. This allows the PRP to reach deeply into the pores.
  • When PRP is administered with injections, it is simply injected into different areas of the face where improvement is desired.
