What Happens During a Dermaplaning Treatment?

Dermaplaning is performed in-office and doesn’t require any numbing cream because it’s a painless treatment. We will clean and prep your skin to get it ready before using a small blade to create small strokes on your face. The blade feels like you would imagine: someone shaving or scrubbing your face.

As the blade works, the top layer of dirt, dead skin, oil, debris, and fine hairs and removed to leave behind softer, smoother, more revitalized skin.

Dermaplaning is also an excellent option to combine with a facial or chemical peel.

Dermaplaning Recovery and Results

Although there’s no downtime with dermaplaning and most patients go right back to their normal day, some do have redness in the skin for the next 24 hours. While your skin is red and recovering, it’s wise to avoid applying makeup. It’s also incredibly important to be vigilant about wearing sunscreen on your face for the first few weeks after dermaplaning. (Although you should always be wearing sunscreen.) For the best results with dermaplaning, treatment every 2-4 weeks is best.

Can dermaplaning trigger an acne breakout?

Is there anyone who should not get dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a great option for all skin types, but those with certain skin conditions (such as rosacea, highly sensitive skin, severe active acne, etc.) should not undergo this treatment. Men who have a lot of beard hair should also not undergo dermaplaning.

Does dermaplaning cause facial hair to return darker and thicker?

No. Vellus hair is so thin, fine, and soft that it grows back the same color and thickness as it was before.

Can dermaplaning trigger an acne breakout?

No. In fact, it’s the opposite: dermaplaning helps prevent acne. This is because the treatment cleans, un-clogs, and cleanses the pores.
