For nearly a decade, Modern Women's Health Practice Manager Kelly Zimbelman has been creating rhinestone-embellished wearable art for Art Bra® Austin, placing each stone individually with tweezers across months of evenings and weekends. At the encouragement of founder Dr. Lisa M. Jukes, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., what started as a creative tribute in 2018 has grown into one of the practice's most meaningful community traditions, with Modern Women's Health serving as a sponsor each year.
This blog looks at the event, Kelly's seven-year collection, and the story behind her 2026 design.
Art, Fashion, and a Cause That Matters
Art Bra® Austin is a one-of-a-kind runway experience hosted by the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC), a nonprofit serving Central Texans affected by breast cancer across Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell counties. All of the BCRC's services are provided free of charge, with the belief that no one should face breast cancer alone.
Each year, Art Bra® brings that mission to a red-carpet runway show: an evening of original wearable art worn by breast cancer survivors, with an audience of physicians, community leaders, advocates, and patients gathered to witness it.
Kelly Zimbelman: Seven Years of Wearable Art
Kelly came to Art Bra® Austin through Dr. Jukes, who encouraged her to put her artistic talents toward a submission. Her first piece honored Dr. Jukes' cousin, who had lost her battle with breast cancer that year, and seeing it on the runway opened something in Kelly that has not closed since. Every rhinestone is placed individually with tweezers, a process that stretches across evenings and weekends from fall through the following March.
Dr. Jukes has purchased nearly every piece at auction, and they are now framed and displayed throughout the practice's offices. Kelly's seven designs include:
- Traded Her Cape for Wings (2018)
- With Stars in Her Eyes (2019)
- Blessings Through Raindrops (2021)
- Bright Like Jenny (2023)
- She Rises (2024)
- Healing Through Tears (2025)
- The Ground Beneath Her Feet (2026)
The Ground Beneath Her Feet
For 2026, Kelly drew inspiration from the U2 song of the same name, building her design around a tree of life. The imagery captures what Art Bra® Austin stands for: growth, resilience, and the strength that comes from staying rooted through life's hardest moments. It is also a fitting symbol of a practice that has served the women of Austin for more than two decades.
Modern Women's Health and Dr. Jukes: Showing Up for Austin
Modern Women's Health's sponsorship of Art Bra® Austin is one expression of a practice that has never treated community involvement as optional. For Dr. Jukes and the team, standing behind causes that matter to patients is part of the job. To learn more or schedule a visit, contact the Modern Women's Health team today.
